2018

In the past, I used to ask myself, "what has Nigeria done for me?" But these days, there is usually guilt when that thought intrudes. There is now the thought of, "how to make Nigeria better".

You probably have questions about how we can make Nigeria better “overnight” and i agree with you that Nigeria will not just be better tomorrow morning just because we wish it. However, we can wake up on a morning in this country and live in a far better world than we have it right now, howbeit, only if we choose to do what it takes.

Yes, Nigeria can be different if we decide to do what it takes and I believe that Nigerians, home and abroad, can Make Nigeria better overnight if we so wish!

The emphasis is on action. Nigeria requires more DO-Tanks than think-tanks. And it rests on our hard work and capability to start something new, something radical.  There are so many things we can do as a Nigerians to make this our country better. I am sure you don’t need me sermonizing about why we need to act now!

So, in case you are not sure of what you can do in your own capacity, maybe you think that you don’t have the power to cause any difference to happen or maybe you think you are insignificant, I have come to preach to you another message. Simply decide that this is what you are going to do next year to make  better.

TALK

In 2019, don’t keep silent, talk! I know we do a lot of talking already and that is why this is the least thing you can do about our problems. Don’t just do lazy talking – which is the kind of talks that focus on what the problems are and the latest corruption case being investigated. In 2019, lets talk about the solutions to these problems too and God Knows, you will be talking to someone who can take it from there.

WRITE

Another thing you can do in 2019 is to write. Writing lasts longer. Not every person can write but i can assure you that more persons can read! The patriot beside you might not be able to articulate his thoughts about how our problems can be solved but he reads newspapers. The pamphlet method has gone out of vogue but trust me, they also have facebook pages where they go at the end of the day so write and writing lasts longer. And of course, just don’t write about the problems, write about the solutions too.

VOLUNTEER

Beyond talking and writing, you can make Nigeria better by volunteering. This is like the highest form of service you can give to your country. Volunteer! There is a cause around you, there is a movement around you-like the Citizens for Righteousness and Social Justice (CRJ), that is trying to make things better, there is a group in your area that needs one thing or the other, there is a coperative society that can make lives better for the people in that community, volunteer your time and your efforts and your skills. This is a step higher because you are not just talking about what is wrong, you are now a part of what is righting those wrongs.

JOIN

Read Why USA called Nigerian President Lifeless

To be clear, you might not have what it takes to start a movement or a cause or an advocacy group, we all have different temperaments and enthusiasm required to put people together but join a movement. Join people trying to make things better. Stop Speculating about how better they could have done it like you’re watching a football match. When you are part of a cause, you have the opportunity to make lives better for all of us! There is no greater sacrifice to country than leaving the fence.

TEACH

If you must help make Nigeria better come 2019, then you must teach people your message. You might not have what it takes to move your movement forward, but by the time you reach out to more people who are within your cycle of influence, you get more skills and expertise. You can also teach people what you stand for, or what your movement stands for so that even if they choose not to join, you leave them with a message.

MOBILIZE

Related to teaching is mobilizing. There are folks who are natural mobilizers, for church, for street meetings, for football matches, for gossips, for parties, just think about it. You can put that into something for our country too. You might not even be a part of a movement or a cause, Identify one cause doing great stuffs and help them mobilize people! You would have done great stuff too.  Don’t just sit behind your device lamenting. Identify that little movement trying to do stuff and you would be a hero already

NETWORK

Let’s even say you can’t do all these things. You can network. By that I mean to make calls to your friends and tell them about a movement that is looking to make life better for everyone of us and how they can be of help. In doing that , you are making it easy for others to make life easy for all of us! You are a hero! We don’t all have the contacts of people who will help make a phone call and that project will be great! So, you can pick your phone and call some folks you know on behalf of some other guys who are Doing stuff! Bury your ego to be recognized and all that. Ask for their mail, send them a recommendation. When Nigeria is like Singapore, we all can start worrying about egos and all.

DONATE

For the busy guys who can’t do all these stuff, you can be partners in progress through donations. There is great impact at the grassroots and with the saying real progress is Local, we know the real deal is at the grassroots and without that nothing really will be happening but participation doesn’t start and stop at the grassroots. You might not have to be there if you can send your money or your resources or your recommendations. There are so many things you can donate apart from money but you can donate your money too no matter how small. It goes a long way in financial and moral support.

SERVICE

Another way to support the Nigeria project is to peddle your services that people are in need of that you can offer them without pay. Maybe you plan events or your can draft proposals or you have access to opportunities they can leverage on or you can write a grant or you can raise funds. Don’t wait till they acknowledge your many years of experience in that field and send you an invitation letter, go to them and give them the service, you would have served your fatherland! Code for free, Program an app that will help make them feel better, design better graphics. Don’t analyze how they would have gotten more donors with finer banners, there’s no time for that, help them!

PROMOTE

In 2019, decide to promote a noble cause to better Nigeria. It is the pathway to reaching that goal. Sharing on Facebook, WhatsApp and other social media platforms, have not made anybody more popular or less popular. There are thousands of folks doing great stuff but just can’t get their message out to lots of people! I hear content promotion is now a job. If it’s not your job, share. It will save a life, If it’s your job, offer it for free or at a discount, that single act will not deny you your next meal, it will even help in the end.

ORGANIZE

One of the greatest problems we have in the world of making our country better is organizing. We lack organizers. What we have are agonizers! . How do we plan events, which venues do we use, how do we get sound, are people showing up, where are they going to seat? What’s the agenda? If you are good at organizing, Nigeria needs her own Barack Obamas. Don’t just stop at your own pay-job. Help to organize. Form cell groups, meet often, All those women groups in your streets, they can be turned into channels of impact.

Organizing will be helpful in 2019. Using word of mouth or posters or banners or online, Help to make publicity! It is the life bank of any social movement, the more people who know about it, the faster we can have our overnight success in this country! Anything that you can do to publicize a movement for good, Do It! Pay for posters and banners, Tell one friend per day, Just Do It!

PROTEST/MARCH

This is a culture which I would love to see more in Nigeria in 2019. We don’t have it in this country and we need to develop. I have always toyed with the idea that there would be a group, an organization that would develop a database of Nigerians per state who would be willing to march on any issue that takes us back in time into darkness so that when those issues come up, those who have indicated interest will show up. Because we don’t march on issues, we are being taken for granted by officers as low as the local government ward councilor. March! It is the highest statement of demand from a government! Don’t be afraid too! Stand up and march!

LEAD

Though it does not apply to everyone and the reasons are obvious, leadership is key to a better Nigeria. But if you think you have the solutions to Nigeria’s many problems, start with one and lead a movement on that issue. If you want to start a political party or group that will deliver Nigeria from where we are headed! Please start! If you want to lead a branch of a party or group in your area that will birth a New Nigeria, join and Lead that chapter! Nobody will come and beg you to lead! Stop waiting for Leaders! Leaders are wanted! Leaders are needed in our society! If you have what it takes, you are gold right now and You are highly in need! Lead! And don’t just lead, raise other leaders too! We need Leaders in this generation. We cannot afford to be another wasted generation parading the worst of their folk as the leaders of their epoch! Come out and Lead! Answer the call!

COLLABORATION

The most important factor we cannot afford to lose as we strive for a better Nigeria in 2019 is collaboration.  Irrespective of our passion and energy, we stand to achieve little if we fail to collaborate. We have all it takes! I can boldly say that Nigerians has what it takes to build and deliver a New Nigeria. But we cannot do it individually no matter how strong and efficient we are! We need to collaborate  and we need to start now!

I believe you can plug into these things i have mentioned as a Nigerian! If you must talk at all, Talk about solutions and join the Implementation. You are needed! You are greatly needed to make Nigeria better.

Here is food for thought as we march towards 2019: as Nigerians, we are always on the lookout for a political messiah to sweep aside corruption and transform our country. It's time to get real and realize that you have been a part of the Nigeria problem, and it needs a "better you" to turn things around. This is the first and greatest of steps toward building a better Nigeria. "The strength of a nation," says Samuel Smiles, "depends on the character of the people.  Individual development is national development." We all wish to wake up one morning and find that everything has changed. We all are looking for one big change that will make our country better forgetting the fact that we are the change we seek. As the Chinese proverb goes: “The man who removes a mountain begins by carrying away small stones.” To defeat the corruption in our country is to begin by defeating the greed inside of us.

Each new government promises it will never make the same mistakes its predecessors made. The leading lights in the administration promises to bring a positive change; to break the patterns of failure. They promise to make Nigeria a better place. But deep inside their hearts, they do not desire true change. They do not have the interest of the people in their hearts. All they want is for self-gratification. The new administration is faced with onerous challenges it inherited. This is evident, today, in many ways. There is still a high rate of crimes. There are insecurity, greed, bribery and corruption, forgery, rot in the system, poverty, illiteracy, looting, money laundering etc.

However, with all these happening around us, we must not be tired of doing the right thing. We must not be tired of voting for people that will lead us. We will continue to vote and vote until we get the right set of leaders. We have made our mistakes, learnt our lessons and must avoid making them in the next election come 2019.

Read also How Nigerian is degenerating to failed Country

When we talk about change, we believe it is the duty of our leaders alone to make that big change. But the truth is: The change we seek will not come from space or from foreign funds until we have an individual change of attitude and behaviour. All the state funds, yearly budget, international funds and donations, and money borrowed from the World Bank cannot bring a physical change if we do not have a moral change. “Waste no more time,” says Marcus Aurelius, “arguing about what a good man should be. Be one.”

We have remained in the same position for several years because we expect the change we seek to come from the world, and get down to us. It will not come. It can only begin from us, then our family, then our community, our state, our country, our continent, and then the world. Of course, the government has a role to play but we also have our own role as the people of this great nation. Mother Teresa said: “Do not wait for the leaders; do it alone, person to person.” The government cannot play our role, and we cannot play theirs either. The government can collect our waste but it is our duty to clean our environment and gather them together.

We are the drivers of success and prosperity. From our thoughts originates our world. We have held ourselves, in a way, from our negative thoughts about the country. We should be careful of what we say and think about our country and ourselves. Imagine when millions of us hold the same thought of cursing and abusing the country they live in, condemning the nation, accusing everyone of being corrupt except themselves, yelling and crying for change but are not ready to do anything about it. “The thought manifests as the word” says a wise man, “the word manifests as the deed, the deed develops into habits. And the habit hardens into character. So watch the thought and its ways with care. And let it spring from love, borne out of concerns for all beings.”

If you think the little things you do every day are too small to make an impact; if you feel your daily thoughts and actions do not have an impact in the general change you seek, try doing something bad in the presence of a child. In the past, I wanted to change the world, but then I realized I have to make a better me. I have to change myself first, then the world will change along side with me.

There is a story told of a man that went to a fast food restaurant opposite his building requesting that the owner clear the waste in front of the fast food. The owner of the fast food simply replied, he would. When he was about leaving the fast food, a regular customer there called him and said he should go and clean his dirty window. He found out that the day he decided to clean his window, the same day the fast food owner removed the waste in front of his restaurant.

We have all made mistakes in our lives. It is part of human nature. It is inevitable. There is always another chance for a man that is ready to change. But before we can ever hope for change, we must first examine ourselves; and take note of our strengths and weaknesses. Just as a doctor cannot treat a patient without knowing the symptoms, we will not be able to make a change without knowing what is holding us back.

If only we can live with a common purpose! If only we all have a unified thought of making Nigeria a better place. We have to turn to the Lord Almighty for blessings and guidance with all our hearts, soul and might. We cannot have two great religions of the world in our country, with all the churches and mosques; prayers and fasting and still be suffering.

As you make efforts to change towards being better, become an implant by forming the habit of encouraging others. Always look for the good in everyone and in everything. Confucius said: “There is good in everything but not everyone sees it.” We encourage people by seeing their good qualities and we also help ourselves by looking for them.

We get back what we give out. We reap what we sow; it is what we plant today in our home, work place, school and environment that we will harvest in the future. I learned this, at least from experience, that there is no greater joy than to help others succeed.
Remember, the clever begins by changing the world, the wise change themselves. Be Wise. Be Better. Change your thought and change your world. What we think of ourselves matters a lot. So change the way you see Nigeria. See a new Nigeria, see greatness and so it shall be.

I am not saying it is going to be easy, I am simply saying it’s going to be worth it.

Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New 2019!

The People's Bishop Kenneth Obi *Anti* -Corruption Crusader and *Advocate* of Humanity and Social Justice.

In the course of my advocacy for righteousness and justice in Nigeria, i have been asked repeatedly if Nigeria will ever get better. And each time the question is thrown at me, my Answer is “YES Nigeria will get better." But for this to happen, we her citizens must unite and speak with ONE voice.

The voice of the people said the ancient, is the voice of God. That voice, when sung on a chord of a common brotherhood, is majestic and powerful to the pulling asunder of the voices that divide. That voice can liberate when its depth of conviction is only marched by its alliance with justice. Like a heavy brass of cymbals, it will vibrate across the length and breadth of a nation, cut across tongues and tribes, to help inspire the heart of a people for the glorious pursuit of justice, brotherhood and freedom.

Stories of old in ecstatic perfection rolls down the lips of ancient talebearers, inscribed by the gliding pen of the scribe, extended by the length of history to the hearing of modern men. When mortals would become immortals, so we learned, they became so, only after they unraveled the mystery and grasped with total comprehension, the secrets and mystics of oneness, by which they charged and roared their voice like a rattling thunder storm, and gathered strength where there was none, until their land was fully reclaimed.

So they learned in their days that until voices are tied together in the singleness of purpose and hearts are ignited by the beckoning of a common vision, there would be no fire, no heat, no gut to power the pursuit of justice and freedom. Alas! Curious students of the ancient ways have so known that there can be no power when voices sound apart, but nothing can stand in its way, when it sounds to its fullest in unison. So concluded they, that the power of the voice of the people is in its unity.

Read Keeping Hope alive in Nigeria

Too bad for the people. The oppressor has also learnt this secret. Thus, he sows seeds of hate and suspicion and waters it until it blossoms into tribal and religious sentiments which powers the engine of division. He keeps this engine well oiled to ensure that the people do not come to terms over him. He knows that division decimate the power of their voice and that when their backs are turned against one another, their voice is lost completely. Without their voice, there’s no constraint to the gratification of his wanton greed, lawless conduct and his unjust arrogation of extra judicial power and privileges to himself. He thus goes on a heartless spree, flying the flag of corruption and injustice, trampling on the legitimate rights and entitlement of the people.

While this last, the people groans under the despotic rule of the oppressor, toiling for little and less regarded than humans. Hope soon fades into despair. Life hardens and becomes a tasking task – reduced to a trivial race for survival. Like a long marathon, chained in enduring cycles of years, the baton of oppression through corruption and injustice, changes hands, sustaining the misery of the people. Dreams becomes too expensive to be affordable.

This is the case in Nigeria. We must agree that no multi-tribal, multi-religious and multicultural society like Nigeria ever achieved a successful political transformation without first achieving success in mindset transformation.

It is attitudinal transformation that must be in place first before the Muslims and the Christians can be united enough to resist the ruling elite and successfully put in place a new social order that will guarantee prosperity for all. The ruling elite – it should be known – are not in power without popular support otherwise they will easily fall. It is the popular support they got from a select among the suffering masses plus their friends and allies that keep them in power.

If Nigerian masses can put aside their religious and ethnic identities and acknowledge that they have a common enemy that must be defeated, then One Voice is all they require to secure victory against the forces of oppression. When the united voice roars, and blares at full strength, not the cunning deceit of the oppressor, nor his instruments of division, can withstand the forcefulness of the voice of truth. Like a whirlwind at full speed, it will sweep the land clean of all traces of corruption and injustice, and bequeath a tranquil calm in its wake for the refreshing of the beleaguered soul. Then shall the rising rays of a new dawn gladden the heart of the people, cause their hope to blossom afresh like the lilies by the mountain side, and inspire their dream to a beautiful reality.

Oh! The solace of freedom! The comfort of justice! So hotly craved for in the soul of the oppressed. Yet, how close is victory? The rising sun of freedom and justice will melt the thick darkness of oppression like a wax at mid day. Still, this is never far away. At the summoning of the people to the reclaiming of their common voice, the root of injustice shakes and the castle of oppression crumbles.

Is not this the wisdom of the ancient? The wise men of old have laboured upon wisdom and searched there on. What brings down the castle of oppression, whose offspring is corruption and injustice, faster than the close knitting of minds and hearts, so inflamed by a mutual thirst for freedom? They found nothing stronger, nothing more effective, than the united will of the oppressed, rearing for freedom, and so expressed majestically by the blaring of their common voice.

To be free thus, is to have a voice, a voice strong and powerful. To be free is to be heard, to be heard where it counts. Freedom is no freedom where the people have no voice. Of what use is the sound of many voices sounding apart in different places? Certainly, it is of little worth. But who is there, who can stand it, when the people find their voice and sound it as one? Assuredly, corruption and injustice will bow before the throne of the people, when they connect with their true essence, and shout their voice as one.

The people are the true heroes of every struggle. Citizens make nations great. This is what the Citizens for Righteousness and Social Justice (CRJ) is all about: connecting citizens across regions, tribes, tongues and faith, summoning them to a higher calling, to gather their voices and trump it as one.

What will it cost to get involved? Be among the heroes of this story. Get on this citizen’s train and let’s have a ride together.

When will I truly pick up the Name a True Nigerian despite my undying love for this great nation that seem to hold its beauty in the future? When will I reap that just course that I propagate? Nigeria, a great Nation, this is the hope I have, the only thing that keeps me going, but truly will it be selfish of me if I demand to see what I struggled for in my life time? Why does everything Nigeria has to be in the future? Is that not a pointer to the dream that may never be?

These solitary questionings of a patriotic Nigerian reminds me of Proverbs 13:12 which says, " Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but when the desire is fulfilled, it is a tree of life."

In as much as I share his passion to see a new Nigeria in his lifetime, I believe that fighting for a better Nigeria is a sacrifice fuelled by unfailing hope. Hope is one of the most potent weapons that have kept humanity going in the face of daunting challenges. It is an optimistic state of mind that is based on an expectation of positive outcomes with respect to events and circumstances in one’s life or the world at large. Thus, a man in deep trouble believes that inasmuch there is life; there is hope for a better tomorrow. In fact, anyone in Nigeria that is not privilege to belong to the less than 10% of the elites in the society will need an army of hope to survive the multi facet problems that continue to ridicule the country amongst comity of nations.

From the unending Boko Haram crisis in the north east to the religious as well as tribal crisis, ritualist killings, armed robbery, kidnapping and herdsmen problem rampaging other part of the country; Nigeria is indeed at a precipice. Nigerians run from one part of the country to a presumed safer side of the country forgetting that it’s a matter of different stroke to different folks. The fact is that death hovers across the country and no one is safe. This explains the necessity of hope in a pariah state like Nigeria where human life has little or no value. Workers are barely paid their entitlement; roads have become a death trap consuming the blood of Nigerians especially graduates and corpers in a ritual like manner. Barely can an academic calendar go by without lecturers going on strike action. Infact, both the universities and polytechnics lectures are currently on strike. Security of lives and properties has become a luxury which the government can’t even afford for its citizens. The killing of the immediate former Chief of Defence Staff; Alex Badeh speaks volume of how terrible security has become in Nigeria.  Nigeria has become the capital of the poorest people on earth with more than 87 million of the country’s population living below two dollars per day. Unemployment is on the rise with 20.9 million people are without jobs according to the Bureau of Statistic’s 3rd quarter report; while consumer price index is not even doing better. It just appears to be no light at the end of the tunnel in Nigeria as everywhere is covered in darkness and according to the minister of Power, Road and Housing; government is not to be blamed for the darkness in the country. Just imagine!

Nigeria's tough times have created a "nation of hopefuls", and that means that moving Nigeria forward is a task to which we are committed.

For me, I foresee a Nigeria founded on justice and honesty of purpose. This is so because all great nations of the world thrive on justice. I see a Nigeria that has zero tolerance for corruption, religious and tribal bigotry. Indeed, I want to see a Nigeria where people will proudly say “I am a Nigerian living in so, so and so state” and not a Nigerian of a particular state of origin!

I have a dream that sooner than later, the votes of Nigerians will count and we shall bid adieu to electoral fraud. I envisage that in no distant future, our democracy will be built on one man, one vote – the only condition for the sustenance of constitutional democracy. I believe that if the people’s votes count, the leadership will be more accountable to all Nigerians. This will positively impact on all sectors of society because politics is the super structure upon which the economy rests. Once you fix the polity, you remedy so many socio-economic problems plaguing the society. Though this sounds like a tall dream, it is possible with electoral reforms, empowerment and positive attitudes by Nigerians.

You will like Buhari and Rule of Law

Even in the best of systems, it is the operators that make it work and not the Constitution or Act of Parliament per se. The implication of this is that irrespective of the constitutional review and the electoral reforms carried out by the National Assembly, if Nigerians stick to their old ways of doing things, the system will still not work effectively! It is thus left to our leaders to take the baton of leadership and spearhead a change that is needed and must come.

I see a Nigeria where the political leaders are not egocentric, and do not engage in misappropriation and embezzlement of public funds to their own exploitative advantage and satisfaction of their selfish interests, but rather channel funds to appropriate sectors for the development of the country.

The Nigeria of my dream is a country where Nigerian citizens enjoy critical infrastructure such as good road, water, and uninterrupted power supply, to mention but a few. Power will power the economy and help the country to attain it's Goals. With power, industries including large and small scale businesses would yield optimum results. I want to see a Nigeria in which a vibrant railway network is an integral part of the transport system. This will make our roads last longer because most of the cargoes carried on roads will have to be transported by rail. This has far reaching short and long-term impact by reducing the cost of transport and subsequently of foods and other goods transported, which will ultimately lower inflation.

I foresee a Nigeria devoid of alarming unemployment and insecurity.Where citizens sufferings are ameliorated through prompt payment of workers' salaries and pensions.

A country where there will be fulfillment of promises, and not the usual lies and propaganda used to win elections. A country where the police and other security agencies will truly be our friend and strife to protect us rather than subjecting us to inhuman and unlawful treatments which dampens our trust in their existence and ability to protect.

I dream of a Nigeria where the judiciary will be totally free from undue manipulations from other organs of government, and rather strife to protect the common man, as it is often referred to as 'The Last Hope of the Common man'. A country where both the rich and the poor can be granted fair justice and treated equally within the tenets of the Rule of Law.

I dream of a Nigeria where we can freely thrive in the pursuit of our daily goals and be sure that there won't be any form of discrimination on the grounds of ethnicity, religion, wealth or status. A country where both the rich and the poor can thrive favorably, respecting their individual differences without the unfair suppression of one over the other.
I dream of a Nigeria where we can thrive in the spirit of national consciousness, and eschewing all forms of ethnocentrism and ethnic chauvinism. A country where we will be united in love that is devoid of wars and clashes that can give rise to the unfortunate shedding of innocent blood. A country where mutual understanding exists between farmers and herdsmen in the pursuit of their life activities.

I dream of a Nigeria where democracy can truly be upheld, and granting the people the opportunity to take their destinies in their own hands by electing credible leaders that will reflect their collective interests and goals. A country where elections can be free and fair without any form of manipulations.

To see this new and better Nigeria, we must keep hope alive in the face of daunting challenges we face as a country.

The People's Bishop Kenneth Obi *Anti* -Corruption Crusader and *Advocate* of Humanity and Social Justice.

On a historic or conceptual level what appears to be chiefly present in many Nigerians at home is a wrong within the conscience. The typical Nigerian personality, at least observantly, suffers from impoverished moral sense or conscience, broadly enjoys not conforming to social norms with respect to lawful behaviors, love conning others for personal return or pleasure, recklessly disregard the suffering of others, nonfamily members especially, consistently and repeatedly have no remorse for hurting anyone and buys into mistreating everyone through acts of venality and deceitfulness.

Notably, it is fully possible that there are godly thinking Nigerians at home yet to be marked with the apparent characterizations of the Nigerian style of personality. The Nigerian Personality Style appears drawn to callous unconcern for the feelings of others especially workers and non-relatives have very high tolerance to acts of corruption, and a low threshold for discharge of dishonesty including vengeance.

The Nigerian Personality style makes a typical and many Nigerians always in readiness to blame others or to offer peculiar rationalizations for their ill behaviors which have brought the individual into conflict with society.

The Nigerian Personality style typifies acts of dysfunctional religiosity, remains markedly clannish, overly defensive, abundantly sentimental, and situationally confused. The Nigerian style of personality in terms of relationship to national matters, fosters institutional sclerosis, is indifferent to sustainable infrastructure, and stands out as  central to damp or lifeless bureaucracy.

The typical Nigerian personality is open to a burning desire to view a white human being as fully positive in nature and precious in appearance followed by a sense of negativity to his or her own blackness.

Read from Obi Two decades Nigeria still searching for Democracy

The Nigerian style of personality appears to feature heavily among the unreliable statistics of 170 million people, marked with unhealthy greed, and the need to protect one’s status quo at all cost. The Nigerian style of personality is deeply drawn to high value for education yet it is oiled with enduring mindset for corruption and crushing income inequality. The Nigerian style of personality appears formed within, between and around religious violence, dire health concerns, devastating poverty, ailing institutions, and death-designed roads;   yet this style of personality appears happy both in mood and spirit.

The Nigerian style of personality appears supplemented by super religious presentations yet the Nigerian life apparently and typically runs on harshness, wickedness, suffering, excitability, sickness, and moderate optimism.

The Nigerian style of personality appeared formed easily in children by parents who show a display of morally and socially damaged behaviors openly or misleadingly. The Nigerian style of personality like most personality styles or ways; are difficult to change resulting in such acts like dishonesty, manipulation, exploitation, and abusiveness which remain seductively charming and admired at all times.

Genetically, or even environmentally, there is no known objective or scientific definition of the Nigerian style of personality at this time, as such  extensive clinical investigation is needed in the future, nevertheless, on the basis of psychoafricalytic outlook the noted acts and attitudes about the Nigerian personality style seem to show everywhere across Nigeria.

Certainly, there are no medications or psychotherapies that exist that could alleviate what appears to be Nigerian style of personality and its conditions; as such it is reasoned here that a hyper-positive change in our beings, towards others and our institutions is all that is needed marked with thoughts and feelings of nation building and progress in our spirit at all times.

[12/19, 12:07 PM] People's Bishop: *CRJ IS FLYING*

Since the establishment of the Citizens for Righteousness and Social Justice (CRJ) Imo State, under the able chairmanship of the people's Bishop Kenneth Obi, the organization have continued to wax strong in her commitment to transforming the society through advocacy and mediation especially in the remotest and interior parts of Imo State. Worthy of mention is CRJ's quick and speedy resolution of age long disputes between families in Amakohia, Nekede, and Orsu, and restoring lost lands and other valuables to their rightful owners. Local communities where the presence of CRJ is felt have had cause to rejoice and hope for justice in a decadent and corrupt society.

Beyond Imo State, CRJ is touching lives. Through her Facebook page and other social media platforms, CRJ has offered prompt and effective services to many. In fact, the recent effort by the Organization to launch it's website is a deliberate move to keep it's office open 24 hours is to ensure that people outside Imo State has access to their services and real flow of information.

While CRJ is working hard to offer her services to people outside Imo state, every effort is being made to replicate the organization in all the local governments in Imo State. This is where CRJ needs YOU. Yes, you! They need you to join hands with them to make the laudable project a reality. All it takes is compassion for the downtrodden and passion for justice and rightness. Make that decision toady to be a member. They are waiting to welcome you into their distinguished fold.

No doubt, CRJ has achieved a lot in 2018, but there is more to be done in 2019.

Once there is life, there is hope: CRJ is certain and ecstatic about a new Nigeria, because the future they believe, holds but promises of positive growth in all ramifications.

Long live CRJ, long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria!

The notion that politics is a dirty game is one we could safely say dates as early as the maturing stages of our political evolution. In demystifying this widely misconstrued assertion, I cannot agree more with the words of a political sage that the comparison of politics to a game is a ‘felicitous one’. It should be known that any game at all in so far as it is not a game of chance is a good game. That submission, therefore, lends politics the status of a good game; that is of course if one still holds onto that opinion that it is one. Being no different from other games, it has got players and they are the politicians or so they call themselves.

Politics should be generally seen as an art of science and management of public affairs, or so they simply put it. These affairs which in modern day have gone beyond just merely maintaining law and order are to ensure the welfare and happiness of the generality of the people. So, where did the dirt in the game come from?

Politicians ideally are to be men and women of impeccable character and proven competence. Again, ideally, these qualities are supposed to be examined in the full glare of public limelight and are to be found worthy enough to earn the politicians the public trust of the people. These days it seems like everyone is just another politician.

In the bid to earn this trust, politicians or should I say politicians in Nigeria are in the habit of employing methods such as ‘abusing, vituperating, attacking, taunting as well other extreme methods which could be violent to detract their political opponents both in private and public spaces. With the knowledge of this, it would not be unfair to understand why the popular dubbing ‘dirty’ has held sway for a long time because they (the people) mean so in a matter of speaking of the way the game is played and not the game itself.

Read from CJS the plot for Nigerian 2019 Election

The object of this writing is not to give the politicians a pat on the back but rather to say the truth the way it is: they politicians in Nigeria have failed and have failed very well.

The political set-up of this country is an amalgam of public-spirited and self-seeking politicians. The alarming truth is not just in the presence of both as that should be expected but in the sprinkling presence of the former and an over-abundance of the latter.

Truth be told: politics is not dirty, and it can be played clean the right way if only the players on the political field would conform to the rules of the game which cut across universal standards of decency and ethics. The politics in Nigeria has clearly given room for an increase in the majority of the politicians who are to be best described as desperate, spoilt, venal, mendacious, callous and self-seeking.

Politics in Nigeria has become a lot of things but truly ensuring the welfare and happiness of the people is not one of them. This same politicians ‘romance’ with the people to get them voted in public office; to give them power to determine their collective fortunes. This is one favour that soon turns out to be an instrument to bring upon misery and bigger misery upon the masses of the people. The privilege to ‘serve’ the people becomes an opportunity to shield themselves from harsh economic realities and social buffetings while in the process they continue to free themselves and further enslave the people.

All these are enough to discourage well-meaning Nigerians from believing in the country and its potentialities but I, as with many others like me remained unfazed because we find encouragement in the fact that the masses of the people are fast developing the ability to differentiate ‘gold from lead and real metal from dross’. It is becoming more obvious that the masses of the people are fed up and tired of this political merry-go-rounding that has led us nowhere and are getting more prepared for tough action against these politicians whose hobbies are among other things the misuse and abuse of power, trickery, fraud and callous neglect of the poor and downtrodden.

We shall overcome as I continue to educate fellow Nigerians against this unscrupulous politicians in Nigeria.

The coast is now clear for Nigerians to go to the polls for another round of general elections in 2019. Political gladiators have also begun to dust their shoes in preparation for the game they feel they know best. But the real issue before Nigerians now is how to vote only credible candidates. The question on the lips of many is; will Nigerians vote for the right people as the only way out of the current political and socio-economic quagmire plaguing the country?

Voting the right people into power in 2019 is the only way to survive this current wave of economic downturn. With the situation on ground, there is the need for us to look beyond political patronage in casting our votes come 2019 because failure to take the right decision will plunge the country into another sad story.

In its strict sense, politics relates to the art of governing. It is about the ways by which the affairs of a nation, the well-being and happiness of the citizenry are decided. It is about making decisions. Politics is the glue that holds democracy together and also the oil that lubricates the creaky machinery of bureaucracy to make it more responsive.
That is why in his farewell address to the United States of America, former President George Washington warned that political parties “are likely, in the course of time and things, to become potent engines, by which cunning, ambitious and unprincipled men will be enabled to subvert the will or power of the people and to usurp for themselves the reigns of government, destroying afterwards the very engines which have lifted them to unjust dominion” .

So, the electorate must check the track records of candidates they wish to vote for because putting corrupt people into office this time would be too costly and disastrous for the country.

Many Nigerians have expressed concern over the moral drift in the country and how degenerating our society has become. They point to the tragic consequences of increased crime rates, horror of violence, loss of values and widespread corruption etc. Regrettably, when an opportunity arises for them to do something about the situation through participation in political processes, most people shy away. I think the time has come for us to elect credible Nigerians who mean well for the country. Politics is about public service and public service is the noblest thing citizens can do in a democracy. Sadly, however, politics is no longer valued as an honourable calling in Nigeria as many well-meaning citizens are not encouraged to participate; but we should know that it is our responsibility to put the right people in the right places. We need godly men and women in positions of authority so that we have a peaceful, just and moral society. When the righteous rules, they say the people rejoice; so if the righteous people are not voted for, then, we leave the doors open for our nation to be governed by the wicked.

The nation at this crucial time needs credible people in politics and government to make Nigeria viable economically and otherwise. Getting things done the right way requires good leadership, with the support of the followership. Our leaders must work towards the accomplishment of a common goal knowing that leadership is a process of getting things done through the people. It means responsibility. Nigerian leaders and politicians should know that the people are looking up to them to get things done properly. Everything revolves around leadership. The impact of leadership has been frequently cited in the Bible. For example, in the ancient Israel, when God’s people had a good King, all was well with the nation and there was development. But when they had a bad King, things went bad for everyone. That is why the scripture teaches that without a vision, the people perish (Proverb 29: 18)

Nigerian leaders must, therefore, provide selfless service to the citizenry. They should know that making other people feel good makes them stronger. Governance demands that whatever decisions taken by those in power should be in the best interest of the majority.

As the 2019 general elections approach with high expectations, it is expected that the electorate look beyond the old practice of voting candidates based on party affiliation or tribal sentiments. Be wise! Vote rightly.!

The People's Bishop Kenneth Obi *Anti* -Corruption Crusader and *Advocate* of Humanity and Social Justice.

These are sad times to be a Nigerian, particularly under this form of leadership, under this administration, where as usual unfortunate norms are high on the increase, let’s check in into the current trends happening now, been a toothless citizen of the most populous black country.
Meanwhile in America, if one of its citizens is wasted outside its shore, in a wrong manner, the country who play host is in a national trouble, if it is one of her soldier, then at least two or three of the country’s military personnel would pay, that is why it's a rare thing for internal trouble to crack their shells, although that is never to belittle other countries and super powers of the world.

In Nigeria, precisely currently, everything, seems to be going wrong for almost majority of the citizens, and security to say, is at an oblivion level, this administration has proven to be a bad gamble for the last three years, and even now when it reigns are closing it keeps getting even worse, few days ago, many of the once Nigerians gallant Soldiers, fell easily to the sharp knives of the country’s old foe, the Boko Haram insurgents, worst of it all, there were ample time for recordings of this tragic minutes, even though the army has called off the video as been fake. Buhari reacted, yes, our president express Shock, then still go about his election campaign.

The Nigeria Army has been poorly unfunded, not just as a result of recent time, but as a result of the times we found ourselves immemorial, the discipline is gone, yet Tukor Buratai has increased nothing in terms of efficiency nor even fight for the welfare of the Nigeria Army, how much more sophisticated equipment shipout to insurgents, the Nigeria Army I was taught in history is not the one I see now. Yet we have a government in place.

In a develped countries, where lives are valued I tell you, such a man would have been dismissed, if not also face the wrath of the law, this is a man who's been probe for owning different assets off the shores of Nigeria, few years into his tenure, while ammunition are rusting in the hands of those who have been selected to protect lives and properties, I think we have a problem, not just the government. But we, our attitudes towards the government.

Lets travel into another badland, the Academic staff union of university, has been on strike, for almost a month, and the world class students of this country, are home, doing usually nothing productive in some sector, yet there's a sitting president, who jets in and out of the country, using the resources that are scarce on meaningless purposes, worst still, busy seeking for his re-election into the house of the presidency one more time, isn’t that something to worry about, to the students whose population is enough to decide the country, yet contributing nothing because many are afraid of nothing.

How Nigerians  celebrate thieves

Recently while the strike is going into its full one month, there’s an NUC chairman somewhere, whose son graduated from a university outside Nigeria, with a PhD, from Aberdeen, United Kingdom, this are the kind of men, who you prefer take the fight to the government, deciding the fate of the millions of Nigeria students, if his son, Rasheed was studying in Nigeria under this kind of pressure, there would be a significant impact from his side, the solution won’t be to delay the already old curriculum, outdated, school curriculum we are still using on Nigeria. To this end, if men like this remain in power, I tell you world class Nigeria youths, our progress won’t be much, it's time we stand tall and change tides like this.

To the standard of living, this might not be necessary, because we see things everyday, and from every angle, how ill equipped we are as a people, surviving, the country standard of living, is at a 55.71% low compared to countries with giant population like the United States, with over 71% of the population living on less than a dollar, it's no longer news we are now the capital of the world poorest countries, a tag I don’t believe, but for the few determining where the money goes to, one might be unserious to not acknowledge the insightful tag, the masses are hungry, it's the weapons the greedy politicians have used to shove us off their irresponsible acts, and the average Nigerian man, can’t stand up for justice, I tell you if justice is below the feet of the politicians, mass protest won’t, it's high time we go to the doors of those we have put into sits of powers, and demands accountability, how our funds have been spent, and any bad eggs discovered shouldn’t just be prosecuted, if possible executed, I don’t know when our people would wake up to this level while they are going to the next level in the cloaks of their greed.

I like us to delve into another issue transporting Nigeria into a fast failed States, This administration promises so much that we can’t even remember them all, one is security, the truth is, even the best organized nation’s of the world is not totally free from security challenges, but everyday, we see the fruits of progress, while here in Nigeria, its regression, every minute and every second, another journey into the dungeon of the Boko Haram, as they kidnap freely, using the tag unknown gunmen, few days ago, Suspected Boko Haram gunmen kidnapped 15 girls overnight in a village near Toumour, southeastern Nigeria, since 2009, this plague has been affecting this nation, but this year, its a celebration year, when the hopes were highly raised of how free we are becoming that the insurgents are fleeing but what a lie.

At this reason if the present government still remains at the helm of power chasing another ambitions into power, we are the problems of ourselves to allow this few control our destinies.

Lets move another time, into religion, under this administration, her country dedicated the biggest worship center in the world, church, apart from that, we have combined together mosque and churches the higest number of worshipping centres in the world, yet our schools are on shutdown, yet our schools are unfunded, tragically still, our ways is something for God to worry about. No wonder if the words of the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, is something to think about, we as a people have turn the only place we could develop and be Remembered for, into a large grave yard, where we are finally dump after some of our misery lives on earth.

How does this affect the government of the day anyway, when a leader has no motivation for education, but rather funds hajj pilgrimage, yearly, rather than improve structurally deficient schools, we should expect less, why then should such a government remain in sit, it's our fault if he retains position.

As easy as I found it easy to condemn not just the government of the day, but all political leaders at the helms of power, I have tried so hard to point out the goods they have done so far, but it's just a speck of dust, compared to the resources at their disposal, one problem of the Nigeria politician is that he wants to be relevant at all cost, in order to shove away his bad linen, they are all the same, from Obasanjo, to Buhari, they have no interest of us in their hearts, they have started making our psychological thinking change direction, no wonder a youth will tell you, he wants to leave his fatherland, preferring slavery to be a man in his homeland.

It is unfortunate that whatever we say now, the 2019, election is more important than anything else, this happens only in Nigeria, I want us to visit the corridors of power, the Nigeria house of senates, house of representatives, it's so bad under Buharis’ watch the transfer market there, has been a free falling one, how this people get there I do not understand, frustration has continued to hit the average man while reading or watching the daily news, about how that red chamber is run, into ruin, it's unfortunate when issues that need treatment on home soil, one senator puts a call through to foreign lands, seeking for their help, that our country is incapable, those who remember, The senate President article of 2016, “Nigeria cannot overcome its gathering humanitarian crisis alone”, seeking for international help concerning our food crisis, would know how embarrassing it is to be a Nigerian under this birds of passage, as Niyi Osundare termed them, there is another who prefer to send letters to the United States, concerning probe issues at home, they are scared of the iron hands of the law, yet unfortunately no one has been affected so far, and likewise this issue of SERAP, seeking for probe of how the Nigeria allocation for military service has gone since the early 90s would also be swept under the carpet, this I also know for sure.
I have said it, times without number, in my other justice articles, for the revival of this country, fast becoming a failed state, but what therefore is a failed state? Wikipedia explains it thus: A failed state is a political body that has disintegrated to a point where basic conditions and responsibilities of a
sovereign government no longer function properly Likewise, when a nation weakens, its standard of living declines, it introduces the possibility of total governmental collapse.

While a failing state, is that, which the government seems so weak, that it now possesses characteristics that its decision making is been delayed while life and security is no longer guarantee among citizens of such Government.

Now my question is, since life and properties are no longer save in the country called Nigeria, but some selected few protect themselves in the name of government, using the general public funds to keep themselves and their families save, do we still term such a system failed, failing or systematically failed state.

The Nigeria people, with the problems surrounding the environment, and society we live today, it will be so unfortunate to ring the phones of the international community seeking for unnecessary help, where we can’t find it, thereby embarrassing us the more the people should start now, taking responsibility for any failed Government, all civil service at all levels should be cross checked and held accountable for anything, this time around mobilization seems to be the answer, the urgency of now therefore is to get to the offices of the President, Governors, Local Governments, and demand for the cost through which their term is been carried out, Nigerians should demand for answers. Nigerians should wake up from social media wars, while the major culprits are still been protected by us and our unfortunate ranting.

I have not asked for Mobocracy, but if Democracy would survive then a mix of Mobocracy might do, my candid opinion to save my country, Nigeria.

There is no better time to say this than now; Nigerian democracy is in danger and all Nigerians should rise up to safeguard it.

Political analysts are like public “talkatives” because however solemn their observations, suggestions and recommendations are, they are treated like those of the entertainers who make people laugh and gesticulate. If only half of the solutions they offer for the practical peace, unity and development of Nigeria are adopted, all these troubles bedevilling the country would have been over or brought to the barest minimum. For this reason, I query the unbelievable commitments, criminality and inhumanity by both office seekers and supporters in the name of democracy.

It is painful what used to happen during this period in Nigeria. Only one who has the nation at heart and has followed the quagmire surrounding Nigeria’s democracy would write the story as it is. Nigeria returned to democratic rule in 1999 but till date, it is not yet uhuru for democratic norms and culture in the country. My soul was troubled by the recent chagrins called primaries for various political offices especially by the major political parties in preparation for the general elections in 2019. The outcome and heavy crises that ensued from the primaries are anything prospective of democratic maturity. And I wondered what would be expected from parties who cannot guarantee internal democracy. Most politicians in Nigeria have remained “unlettered” with the true demands of democratic processes and governance.

There are four serious issues which have stagnated our democracy to an extent. How long shall we continue to refer to Nigeria’s democracy as “nascent”? A child born in 1999 is nearly 20 years old by now and can stand on his/her own. It is not how democracy should be, not even in a developing country. It is becoming an accepted norm in Nigeria’s democracy that political office holders do not feel free to hand over to a successor outside a family nuclear. As if it is not enough for politicians to surround themselves with nuclear family members while in office, they simply install stooges who will cover-up the financial recklessness and inhumanity they committed throughout their tenure(s).

Read also from Kenneth Obi How to give Nigerian Hope Again

By doing this, integrity, qualification, competence and experience are of no essence. The greatest requirement is to be near enough to His Excellency and lick his boot all the way, the stooge had been and has signed the pact to remain. The stooge can be something-in-law to His Excellency, who did the boss’s wishes without question. To be adopted as a mere political ally outside the nuclear and extended family membership, the stooge must have sworn to an oath in the presence of a devil to execute all the biddings of the master after succeeding him.

Is this democracy? Is this the democracy Nigerians have been fighting for in the last twenty years? Definitely, it is not. When governance is totally run by family members, that is called dynasty. It is not democratic governance. In Nigeria today, situations are found where a father, mother, son, daughter and in-laws are in different political offices in a state and at the federal government. They hold positions as members of National and State Assemblies, members of the Federal and State Cabinets, Special Advisers, Senior Special and Special Assistants and “Caucus Members” at State and Federal levels without clear political portfolios. Some of the Politicians have built such political enclaves that have become very difficult to penetrate.

Worse still, some leaders really wish to play god by manipulating the mandate of the people they have been entrusted to govern. Yes, some Nigerian leaders see themselves demigods. They claim to be political oracles that must be consulted and their wishes imposed on the country or their states of origin. It is either them or nobody. Everything about them is “Do or Die”. They do not see anything good about others. I am so ANGRY with this attitude of our leaders. It is faulty and lack the good leadership to take us out of the woods.

The second point of concern is the position of the supposed representatives of the people, the so-called Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and the Mass Media”. These are entities who are supposed to help the people, especially the political leaders, get things done right. But very unfortunately, they are already busy lining up to receive “monitoring and observer funds” from Western donors whose only requirement is for Nigeria to have the elections done for elections sakes. Nothing more! Instead, they become problems in the electioneering processes and democratic development.

The third point is on the possible killings that will occur over the next few months shortly before, during and probably after the elections. Recalling past experiences, there had hardly been any general elections since 1999 which did not claim lives and properties. I am very sure that the expected deaths, God forbid, are neither going to be “accidental nor collateral”. They will be intentional and wilful murders that should be punishable by death. We quivered with certainty that no one will be punished for such murders, since that has been the case in the past.

I described this period as “a political murder season”. Killings under any guise in Nigeria have to be put to a stop. The politicians have been accused of unabated fatalities across the country but no single one has been brought to book. Under Boko Haram, Herdsmen, Cultists, Armed Banditry, Armed Robbery, amongst other pseudo Nomenclatures, innocent citizens of Nigeria have been sent to early grave. In addition, road accidents, building collapses, stray bullets from armed force men and more new plans and technological creations to score political differences will ensue in the “political murder season”. Nigerians must pray and act against these.

The fourth point is hinged on the electoral processes and perception of the electorate of democracy. The Nigerian electorate do not understand or consider the limit they should reach in supporting or electing their leaders in a democratic setup. Reflection on the just conducted primaries reveals that there is fury and risk in many quarters. There are already indications that there will be more anger at the “secondaries” since the primaries were marred by massive undemocratic processes. And if it is not contained, there will be danger during the “tertiaries” – the main elections. From the “rigged” primaries to secondaries’ to the tertiary elections, people died at ward congresses, on their ways to their candidate’s ‘declaration and out of frustration. They have died and may die because of politics and the viciousness of Nigerian politics and politicians.

Those who will die or be murdered would have gone, some of them maybe unnoticed. They will leave their family members to suffer, if they were the bread winners. Their spouses, sons, daughters, relatives, friends and well-wishers will mourn them. They would die in “cold political blood”, while the sponsors of the murders or the murderers themselves, will walk away scot free. There will be increase in the number of widows and orphans and school dropouts across Nigeria. This will all happen because someone wants a bigger piece of our national cake”. Yet, many will not learn any lesson.

While these deaths of political thugs would be recorded, the sons and daughters of the politician-sponsors “being fought for” would be aboard studying or holidaying. The media would prefer to discuss the politics rather than the politicians. These are forecasts that should cause drastic change in the handling of the forthcoming general elections. Nigerians must not die or be murdered for any politician to win any election(s). Emphatically, Nigeria’s democracy must go, if one life can be saved. The life of every citizen of Nigeria must be held precious above anything including any political pursuit.

Those versed in the dialectics of political communication would assert the illimitable utility of election mantras in the success of any electioneering campaign.

Sloganeering, indeed, from history, has proven to be a viable tool in the hands of neophytes and connoisseurs in the art of real politik, in catapaulting them to the very zenith of democratic political leadership.

Barack Obama’s defeaning mantra of “yes we can” was a potent propeller and rallying point in the buildup to the 2008 U.S presidential polls. Appealing to both the both the partisan and non-partisan crowd alike, Obama cobbled a momentous victory that made him the very first African – American President in their over 200 years of Democratic practice.

More recently, the “Make America Great Again” rallying cry by Donald Trump engineered the election of the 72 year old Real Estate/TV mogul into the White House.

With a nation viciously polarized along tribal, political, sectional lines, Donald Trump’s political mantra exposed the fault lines in the very American essence, exploited them for political expediency, and created a movement that believed that a return to America’s once-upon-a-time glorious era was possible.

However, Nigeria’s chain of election mantras has offered a gripping reminder of how politicians wield poetic, rhythmic and alluring symphonies in their maniacal, if not murderous quest at gaining political power.

Most recently, the strident holler of “Change” that heralded the victory of the All Progressives congress in the 2015 elections birthed a genuine hope in the people that Nigeria could be transformed for the better.

Confronted with the most brazen level of corruption, cronyism, financial recklessness and institutional anomie at the highest levels of government, Nigerians turned to the main opposition party as succour, with a collective belief that our vast wealth of resources could be judiciously harnessed to promote the interest of the common man.
Alas! This was not to be. Overwhelmed with the sweeping populism and sheer messianism of the change hurrah, Nigerians-the educated and uneducated- failed to engage the apostles of “change” on the dialectics of that mantra, and how it was meant to be effected-for the better or for the worse?

Disappointingly, the “Change” era has turned out to be nothing but a Fraud, a mere flailing at the wind, a vicious plunge into an all time low, and a saddening exposé into how electoral deceit could have cataclysmic consequences on a Nation’s economy, security and politics.

From Plateau to Benue, hapless Nigerians remain harangued and strangulated by the marauding fangs of Criminal Herdsmen, who have turned these once-upon-a-time-food-baskets into killing fields. Kidnappings are on the rise. The Boko haram sect remains partially visible, recrudescing at intervals and announcing her presence with vicious attacks on civilians.

The economy is no better news. With a Nation theoretically out of recession early this year, prices of goods and services remain inflated, buoyed by an increasingly clueless government with no grasp of how to solve economic albatrosses.

It is in the light of these that one must must engage the new (or is it revived?) beautiful bride of our party politics, The People’s democratic party and their Presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar GCON.

With the 2019 polls on the horizon, the presidential candidate of the PDP has adopted a seemingly alluring and utopian mantra: #GetNigeriaWorkingAgain.

The theme #GetNigeriaWorking Again should be critically interrogated so we dont fall into the Abysmal Trap of deception and unkept promises that have dogged our relations with politicians since the advent of the Democratic dawn.

With a promise to restructure the federation, create jobs thereby strengthening our enfeebled economy, fight corruption without partisan colouration, clear the darkening cloud of insecurity and palpable hopelessness pervading the nation, #GetNigeriaWorking Again, as a mantra, seems to acknowledge the unassailable fact that Nigeria is in a dysfunctional state as it as never been in history.

However, beyond the alluring promise to make governance less attractive and create job for the jobless, lies a greater task of uniting our nation.

From Yobe to Lagos, Imo to Rivers, the nation remains polarized along tribal and religious lines, thereby putting to danger the sovereignty and indestructibility of our nation as a geographical, political and social entity.

Beyond the euphoria of the mantra, #GetnigeriaWorkingAgain should be about reviving the feeling of Nigerianness, through the process of consultation with separatist agitators in order to foster peace and congeniality that has long eluded the nation.

#GNWA should be about reworking our moribund refineries for better productivity, restoring the productivity and efficiency of our educational institutions, raising our electricity generation by astronomic proportion and fighting the epidemic of corruption to a standstill.

To enunciate the seriousness of the #GNWA campaign, a policy document elucidating how Atiku Abubakar intends getting our country working again should be made public, with strong emphasis on security, fighting corruption, and economic renaissance.

The #GNWA holler should not be another political stunt verging on McCarthyism. It should be about reworking our nation and restoring it to an acceptable level of functionality.
