Democracy day X-Ray by Kenneth Obi

From all indications, it appears Albert the Great had Nigeria in mind when he defined a miracle as ‘a wondrous fact or event beyond the power of any creature and produced by the Almighty with the purpose of proving the truth of his existence’.

Nigeria becomes a fitting example of the above definition looking at the legion of challenges it had survived within the last three years. Fresh in our memories is the harsh economic depression (or is it a recession) that was designed by yet to be established architects and its exit of the recession in a manner that analysts described as an unmerited success.

To provide some context to this discourse, it’s not as if the Government did not make any effort to move the nation forward within this space, as they were appreciably locked down by the hydra-headed challenge with the dwindled economic fortunes prompted by the drop in the price of crude oil in the world market as a major impediment.

It is, however, an unhappy truth that contrary to this belief, especially when viewed from a wider spectrum, the vast majority of Nigerians with discerning minds seem not to concur with this position as they are of the opinion that not too strong political will and unclear creative leadership strategy for tackling these problems on the part of the government remains the fundamental factors responsible for this challenge.

To support the above assertion, critical minds have pointed out that ‘if we look honestly at the realities of our national life,’ it is clear that we are not matching forward but groping and stumbling; we are divided and confused; our moral values and our spiritual confidence sinks, even as our material wealth’s ascends’.

Obviously, a well-crafted argument that has as a consequence brought political, socio-cultural, security and economic difficulties while painting a picture of bleak future on our geography.

Without much labour, insecurity is identified as the most fundamental of these difficulties in the country, with the blood of innocent Nigerians used daily to irrigate our arid political land by the herdsmen, Boko-Haram and other ethnic militia.

And, standing as eloquent testimony of the masses displeasure over this current security challenge is the recent peaceful protest/procession by the catholic churches in Nigeria where the church among other things explained that ‘’the procession or the protest was necessitated by the inability of the government to act on the several verbal and written complaints by the church; with regards to insecurity and bad governance, with the likes of His Eminence, Anthony Cardinal Okogie asserting that the president’s silence towards the killings showed that a cow in the estimation of the president has become more valuable than human lives.

Miserably as it is, this security challenge is made worse by our nation’s inability to meet up with the United Nations’s prescribed one policeman to 400people ratio, while the hired policemen remained ill-equipped and police as a body underfunded.

As if that is not enough woes for the country, this period of our existence as a nation is also reputed as an era when the nation became more divided, when tribal loyalty is viewed stronger than the sense of common nationhood with different tribes/ethnic groups jostling to be more Nigerian than the other.

But if you think that this is the highest challenge currently confronting the country, wait till you cast a glance at this; the Joint Health Sector Unions, the body entrusted with the management of the nation’s health sector has been on a protracted industrial action over the failure of the government to meet their demands. Lamentable but expected, within this period of the industrial action, many innocent Nigerians have descended down the valleys of the shadow of death over minor sicknesses.

Arguably a disheartening development but it’s also of appreciable importance to this discussion to mention that within this period under review, strike actions in our educational and other sectors have become not just incessant but a regular trademark to the extent that before the dust raised by the ASUU strike will go down, that of the NASU is up.

Another contentious development that demands attention is the orchestrated corruption fight by the Federal government. Objectively, the Federal Government may have created a cloud of opinion that views corruption as the enemy of the state. But doubt remained as the real fight only exists superficially; this state of affairs, has precipitated knocks and lampooning from all quarters with that of the Transparency International {TI) as the strongest.

The Group had through a statement dated Monday 28th May 2018 among other things complained that the Federal Government of Nigeria has in the run-up to elections expanded the use of opaque $670million –a-year- funds that fuels graft.

On the political sphere, a peep at the centre will reveal a not too impressive outing, with the squabble between the Executive and the Legislative arms which has refused to abate or wane as the most telling evidence that the centre cannot hold. In the same token, the just concluded Congresses by the ruling All Progressive Congress which was characterized by factions and parallel congresses is a pointer that nothing afterwards may have changed politically.

Meanwhile mixed reactions have continued to trail the management of the nation’s economic sector as many are of the opinion that the handling has not been too impressive. But as someone who cannot support an argument based on sentiment or allow sentiment to determine my actions, it is a barefaced truth that any nation faced with the above multi-faceted challenges, coupled with epileptic electricity supply, non-functioning Refineries and unemployment situation will definitely not expect a robust economy.

Consequentially, therefore, it has become a common knowledge that the democracy practised so far on our shores has neither underwritten social justice nor guaranteed social mobility.

Looking ahead, it is possible in my views, for this administration to achieve a people-purposed result. And doing that will necessitate the government developing the moral force to transcend from being self-centred to people focused.

Equally important, Nigerians on their part must develop the willingness to elect come 2019, leaders who can ‘demonstrate a passion for their purpose, practice their values consistently, and lead with their hearts as well as their heads; those that will establish long-term, meaningful relationships and have the self-discipline to get a result’.

Nigeria Democracy Day sms

Fellow Nigerians,

I start with a deserved congratulation to all of us who the almighty have spared to see another democracy Day. I have never been a pessimism preacher, or a celebrant of hopelessness. Because I have always believed that hope is cheaper, easier, and better than despair. In the face of seeming gloom and loss of confidence in our leadership, my belief and confidence in a Nigerian renaissance is anchored on the vision and mission of the Citizens for Righteousness and Social Justice (CRJ) which is to promote Righteousness, Social Justice and raise Anti- corruption Crusaders for a better Nigeria.

To my fellow clergymen, let us speak the truth at all times, promote righteousness, and pray for the peace of Nigeria.

To my fellow activists, let us continue to be the voice of the voiceless and defenders of the rights of the Nigerian masses.

To our politicians, you understand how low your trust value is in the eyes of the populace but the truth remains that no matter how low you have been despised, you can re-earn trust through simple initiatives that touches the lives of the common man. If you can learn: to know that there is no guarantee to stored riches, but there is instant gratification in setting up someone to become something in life – especially those who cannot go back.

To our youths, you should learn to think and come up with ideas and projects, and proposals that will challenge potential benefactors to go the extra mile to assist. I may also add here that you should learn to start small and grow gradually.

I challenge you to put platforms like YouTube and Google to better use by watching and searching out knowledge building content and information; especially those that can equip you with a skill or ignite the spark of a profitable idea. Always remember that you will be one of the millions who are seeking money for rent, to feed, to pay school fees, and more. But you could be one of the few that can generate ideas that will solve problems; and you may become rich on that idea.

On security, I have said it again and again that for all the things we could do in politics, we should not politicize the death of fellow human beings. If our security leadership cannot solve the problems, there should be the courage and will power to engage fresh minds.

Our economy is witnessing a resurgence that makes newspaper headlines but does not increase employment, food, or housing lines. One thing I know about Nigerians is that we were never a people that depended on what government will or will not do, to hustle out our survival ourselves. That is why it becomes discouraging when the consensus seems that government seems to now have become a hindrance to establishing and running successful businesses. The government policies should have a more human face. There is no law that says we cannot make economic progress that does not impoverish a majority of our citizens.

In conclusion, in this elections season, I call on all political gladiators to learn from those who we copied our democracy from: to know like Obama did with Hillary, that your most aggressive opponent during the primaries could become your chief diplomat, and that your administration and people will be better for it. And to have at the back of our mind that we will determine the destinies of generations unborn by our conducts in this elections; to compete with dignity, to concede defeat when we lose, to be gracious in victory, and above all to know that Power comes from God alone.

Finally, my prayer is that after these elections, Nigeria will become a better place for all of us.

Not Too Young to Run

President Muhammadu Buhari had his Democracy Day address to Nigerians and he kept his biggest announcement for last and made it in a rather bland manner.

The President said: “In few days to come, I will be joined by many promising young Nigerians to sign into law the “Not Too Young to Run” Bill.

Nonetheless, this will change the face of politics in Nigeria as it makes active participation in actual governance more open to the youths who make a sizeable proportion of the population.

Once assented to thereby becoming an Act, this new piece of legislation will ensure changes to some parts of Nigeria’s election provisions.

The effect of the bill in terms of age qualifications for elective offices are:

The age requirement for President is reduced from 40 to 30 years, that of Governor is reduced from 35 to 30 years and Senate is reduced from 35 to 30 years.

Meanwhile, the minimum age qualification for a seat in the House of Representatives and State Assemblies is reduced from 30 to 25 years.

After weeks of shadow-boxing, the gloves are finally off between President Muhammadu Buhari and former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Obasanjo’s roadshow to drum up support against Buhari’s second term got under his skin. The president, who only weeks ago praised his Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, for his cool and calculated response to the former president, lost his cool and returned fire for fire.

That’s dramatised, really. It wasn’t exactly fire-for-fire. Buhari’s response this week to Obasanjo’s tantrums was false, impotent anger. It was a window on how the public is held in contempt by its leaders, especially politicians.

For years now there has been public outcry that the billions of naira poured into the power sector under the Obasanjo administration has only produced more darkness and misery. Buhari was listening but he wasn’t hearing.

In the past, when he was under pressure to respond to the wasted billions, Obasanjo said it was not $16 billion but $3 billion that his administration spent in a blueprint that was also supposed to integrate independent power producers and double power generation, which was around 2,000 megawatts at the time.

He said that he met things in a terribly bad state and that no investment had been made in infrastructure since he left office over two decades earlier.

He claimed that he did his best to rebuild the sector and blamed his successors, particularly late President Umaru Yar’Adua, for neglecting the energy blueprint and slowing down gains which could have been made.

Again, Buhari was listening but he wasn’t hearing.

Like the typical Nigerian story there was not one credible, coherent version; not even two or three. Investigations by the House of Representatives, Senate and other bodies have produced different accounts, which suggest that contrary to what Obasanjo claimed, sums ranging from $13 billion to $16 billion – apparently more than $3 billion – were spent by his government with little or nothing to show for it.

In fact one report said that between Obasanjo, Yar'Adua and Jonathan, government spent N2.74trillion on power.

When Buhari took office three years ago and decided to prioritise the fight against corruption, not one of these versions was unfamiliar to him.

Whether $3 billion, $13 billion or $16 billion, Buhari knew that billions of dollars had been spent to provide electricity and yet there’s hardly enough supply to power a 60-watt light bulb consistently.

He knew that this nonsense happened largely on Obasanjo’s watch and yet for reasons best known to him, he chose to look the other way, while laying out the red carpet to receive Obasanjo at least five times in Aso Rock within his first one and a half years as president.

As long as Obasanjo was saying what he wanted to hear about his government, Buhari was happy to look the other way.

Nigerian in My heart of hearts

And suddenly, three years down the line, because Obasanjo is opposed to his having a second term, Buhari is upset; very, very upset, and is forced to conveniently remember that Obasanjo may have misused public funds. But he is not even upset enough to mention Obasanjo by name. He simply described him as “one former head of state”.

He let the press put the name in his mouth. That is how upset Buhari was – enough to get an applause in the room but not enough to say what he plans to do after waiting three years of indulging a scandal.
When rolling power cuts threatened to disrupt South Africa, Eskom, the largely state-owned power company, launched the Medupi power station project. Medupi, a coal-fired power generator, comprises six 794-megawatt units. It is the fourth largest coal-powered plant in the southern hemisphere and the largest of its kind with direct dry cooling operation in the world.

That project, which started in 2007 and will be completed in the next two years, has led to the hiring of nearly 20,000 staff. It would cost R145 billion (about $12 billion) at completion and would deliver 4,764 megawatts. Compare this to nearly $30 billion spent on power in Nigeria in 16 years and Obasanjo’s admonition that we should, to paraphrase Femi Falana, connect to pages 41-47 of his book, My Watch, to power our appliances.

Yet, cost is one thing; and the viability of the model on which the billions have been spent in a potentially energy diverse country like Nigeria is another kettle of fish.

Whether it was $3 billion, $13 billion or $16 billion, Nigeria hardly added up to 1,500 megawatts to its generation capacity; yet it has taken Buhari three years and a dissenting view about his interest in a second term to rouse his outrage.

He said it wasn’t impotent outrage, as such. That unlike his former life as military head of state when shooting before aiming was his pastime, the system now makes it incredibly frustrating to tackle crime suspects.

There are certainly more than half a dozen examples of democracies around the world from where he could take a leaf, if he is genuinely interested. For a start, he could ask his older cousin, Mahathir bin Mohamad, how he’s managing to tackle former Malaysian Prime Minister, Najib Razak, who left office nearly richer than his country.

And why is it incredibly frustrating to find a way to tackle the Obasanjos of Nigeria, the Mainas and the murderous herdsmen, but not so the El-Zakzakys and the Dasukis?

Whatever happens next, Obasanjo does not appear to care. And he knows that Buhari’s impotent outrage cannot hold him to account.

To achieve his goal of stopping Buhari’s second term bid, Obasanjo has turned to the second chapter of his anarchist cookbook, the same manual from which he joined forces with the bandwagon to frustrate Goodluck Jonathan’s attempt for a second term.

This time though, Obasanjo is going the extra mile.

He’s not stopping at a public letter bomb in which he rated Buhari’s performance below average. He’s not even stopping at forming a movement, even though he had said at some point that he would wash his hands off once the movement becomes a political party. The world’s busiest retired president is on a roadshow rallying old friends and foes alike against his former godson.

Some have urged that we should ignore the messenger and accept the message.

Is it not true that more Nigerians are poorer, in relative terms today, than they were when Buhari came to office? Is it not true, even by the government’s own statistics, that an average of two million people have lost their jobs every year for the last three years under Buhari?

Is it not true that Nigeria is more divided today than it has been at any time in the recent past? And is it not true, as Obasanjo has alleged, that Buhari’s narrow-mindedness makes nepotism look like a virtue?

It’s true, all very true. Except that it’s just as true, also, that Obasanjo is both message and messenger: you can’t take the one and leave the other.

We take his message that Buhari’s government has under-performed but we also remind this messenger who knows where the dead bodies of the unrealised power projects are buried that even though Buhari may have chosen to turn a blind eye, he, Obasanjo, would yet pay his debt to justice someday, somehow.

Nigerian Governors entitled to loot money by Kenneth Obi

Today, there is great news in the land. It is of several ex-governors (currently the former governor of Plateau State) and other high officials under one form of interdiction or the other, for corruption. And the figures involved are frightening, the least being billion and billions of naira. The wondrous matter is not whether these men are petty thieves or plain heroic saints. The matter is that we are in an era, where there are so many, big men and women, alleged to be stealing so much, in so little a time. Governance in Nigeria has literally become a hectic and unceasing crime scene. And even rescuers actually come in to join the robbery.

Let us for matters of simplicity concentrate on the cast of governors. Today, to be elected a governor in Nigeria and not end up a common thief, requires that one be superhuman, a divinity as it were. But no man ever became god and still bore his human flesh. That is man cannot be both material and god.

Yet, this is exactly what the constitution requires of elected governors. Thus, the image we have of these governors as the guilty or likely to be guilty parties, is not exactly correct. We can canvass their innocence before any properly constituted justice system in the world. It is the system that really lays this great men low. It is the system that is corrupt and merely coopts the innocent into its rot and thievery.

The point is as follows. It is that the powers that have been gathered and given these governors are so much that no mortal can keep them and be saintly, or even sane. The constitution, apparently, in the enthusiasm to push for fast-paced national developments gathered all extant and imaginable powers and handed those over to the governors. That is, these governors are for all practical purposes, elected as dictators over and above their states. And like all dictators, these governors control more powers than gods and yet are mere mortals like the rest of us. This is the source of all the problems of corruption.

Corruption in public office is in summary, the giving of omnipotent powers to mortal man. It is the stress of controlling omni-prevalent powers while remaining man, which is the source of system-pervasive corruption.

That is, in failing to be gods as they must, these governors scale up and morph into monsters. So, it is not really that they are thieves by practice or birth. It is that thievery is the only way to run the Nigerian system. If you don’t steal in Nigerian governance, then you are not human. Forget the sermons, this is the plain truth.

And the monster with so much powers in him and thus, no need for decency, no sense of culture and or civilization, naturally converts public property, including offices, into personal and family assets. Or simply, he is unable to distinguish the two. Later, he scales down to being a petty thief, the fruits of being made a monster. So, it is not the ‘authority thievery’ we should bother. We should stop them from being monsters. All monsters are rogues. And all attempts to make a man a god makes a monster invariably. North Korea is ‘monsterism’ gone haywire, and Nigeria is on the march. Nigeria ronu.

So, these governors are not particularly evil. They are normal persons like you and I. Thus, whoever else is put there with so much net powers to dispense, will in spite, of himself become a petty thief. That is, we must cure and heal ourselves of the error of thinking that Nigeria is gone so low in the quality of political personnel. In fact, so many go to the extent of canvassing that we once had a golden era of men. And they list such names as Dr. M. I. Okpara, Sir Ahmadu Bello and Chief Awolowo, etc. The point is that is conjectural and wrong. We can assure that if any and or all of these men were to be born in these times, they will, one and all, end up as petty thieves.

And the reason is simple and fundamental to human nature. It is that power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Corruption is a power function and not a person nexus. We are corrupt to the extent of net powers we wield.

So to repeat, the question is what made corruption go industrial with us lately. If you sought an answer you will find it in the intervention of the military. The military dictator and armed political robber despite his intentions or claims is the aggregator of power par excellence. That is military governments are power concentrators and sole ‘acquisitors’. All the dictator does whether he comes in as a thief in the night wearing military fatigues or rigging vote counts, is to aggregate all the powers into a few hands.

To give a quick example. On the success of a coup, all powers judicial, legislative, executive and thievery powers, are concentrated in the Armed Forces Ruling Council or Supreme Military Council in a pyramid-style architecture. Therefore with or without intending it, the military government is in its every being and spite of itself, a cesspool of corruption, thanks to its power aggregation and constrictor instincts. That is to be a military coup maker and or dictator is to be a constrictor and gatherer of all powers. That makes you to be corrupt a priori, even before your every first act of betraying your nation by taking up arms against her.

But the military is gone? Apparently. The truth however is that they are not done with us or even themselves as a political force and politicized and largely regionized army. The point is that the military dictators left, but they left their shadows and body odors with us. Perhaps if the military dictators had gone with their offensive body odors and penumbra shadows, all the world would have been round and Nigeria in grace. But trust rogue regimes, they left us a forged constitution. And that constitution is patterned after Arab despotisms. Apparently there is no word for democracy in Arabic language and worldview. Meanwhile there is no Arab country that is a democracy and Arabs are the only geo-polity in the world that has no democracy. All Arabs do and have done in history is to aggregate and concentrate all powers in few hands and ultimately in one hand. And the authors and or forgers of the Nigerian constitution are all stooges of Arabist despotisms, as the way to progress.

So, the extant Nigerian constitution is a drawdown from Arabism. That rag-sheet of a constitution is deluded that it is dictatorship that develops a nation. Yet, no Arab nation is developed. So, in imitation of Arabism, the governors are satraps, are like flag bearers to central dictator lording it over unpacified regions.

In summary, corruption is native to the present constitution and the present constitution was born in corruption. That is why being governor and holding political office in Nigeria is just as profitable as, only safer than robbing a bank. Nigerian constitution and or rogue constitution asks that elected officials be god, have the rectitude of gods. Perhaps the constitution forgers did not know that the Arab court poetry that beatified Arab leaders is praise poetry and has no reality. It is a magical thing. The true Arab poets are all in exile. The resident Arab court poets sing: The office transforms the fool into a wise man, the thug into a king, thus consecrating the pasts, the sordid pasts of the leaders.

So what is the cure to corruption in Nigeria? It is to return the state to the people. Only the people in owning the state can and or may protect it. The state is not the stolen treasure, a coup maker makes it. If we allowed or habituated to the state as a stolen or hijacked treasure, then the stealing, the scepter of the state as a robbery scene, an ongoing and never ending robbery scene, will go on forever. Thus if we don’t return the stolen Nigerian state to the peoples, Nigeria will remain literally a fallen elephant and all kinds of butchers, poachers, godogodos, thieves, governors and all, will be upon her. And it is moral. At least the extant constitutions says so.

But the devolution of power is not just a question of devolving power from the central government to the states. It is more about the nature and distribution of that power in states, LGAs and all. The governors must be made increasingly powerless and the peoples increasingly powerful. It is the people not government that are to be allowed to develop their nations, regions, states and LGAs.

The idea that one man, the governor is the developer you need, is rooted in ignorance. In fact democracy is the granting of the greatest powers to the greatest numbers. America understood this like we made bare in our book, Corruption in Africa: Development through new Diagnosis.

Perhaps a way out is to return to the parliamentary system. And if we don’t fix this wahala, we should come to terms that our people, whether as governors or civil servants are empowered to steal; they don’t steal to be empowered. Today if you are a Nigerian governor and you are not a thief, you should consult your babalawo, dey no born you well. Or in fact you are telling a lie.

High court in Lagos stops Ikoyi Registry from conducting Marriages

High court bars Ikoyi Registry from conducting marriages A Lagos high court has banned Federal Registry, Ikoyi from conducting marriages - Justice Chuka Austine Obiozor issued an order restraining the registry from conducting marriages - Obiozor explained that it is not legal for the federal government to perform the duties of state and local governments The Federal Registry, Ikoyi, will no longer be able to conduct marriage ceremonies or issue marriage certificates the High Court in Lagos has ruled.

Premium Times reports that Justice Chuka Austine Obiozor on Friday, May 18, issued an order restraining the registry from conducting marriages. Obiozor said it was unconstitutional for the federal government to perform the duties of state and local governments.

The judgement, delivered on Suit No: FHC/L/CS/1760/16 said marriage registries in the local government and local council development areas of Lagos State are the authentic and legally-binding government divisions established to carry out such functions. The Lagos state commissioner for local government and community affairs, Muslim Folami is said to have earlier the judgement would be communicated to all stakeholders, including embassies.

High court in Lagos stops Ikoyi Registry from conducting Marriages

Folami said the decision of the court is supreme and it is legally binding on all. He added that all marriages conducted and registered in any of the 20 local governments and 37 local council development areas are valid and in accordance with the Marriage Act. According to him, the judgement will put a stop to the perception of superiority of Ikoyi Marriage Registry over the local government registries.

He said: “We are going to use every available platform in the five divisions across the state to sensitive our people and inform them about this latest development; From Epe to Ikorodu, Badagry, Ikeja and Lagos Island.” In his remarks, the president of the marriage registrars in all the local government and local council development areas, Deji Sokeye, said the responsibilities of the LGAs/LCDAs has come back to them by the virtue of the law and as provided for in section 30 (1) of the marriage act and section 7 (5) of the 1999 constitution.

He said the judgement would restore confidence in the certificates already issued and those that will be awarded in future by the registries.

The kind of government we practice in Nigeria is what it’s best described as a” re-cycling seat syndrome” unlike the “seat tight syndrome” practiced in some African countries whereby an individual would rule or ruin a country for years until their government toppled. Unknown, our practice to either rule or ruin is being encouraged by our voters’ card.

The whole sensitization about the Permanent Voters’ Card registration should not be our best election strategy for the forth coming 2019 Presidential election. Even if it is, while we try to mobilize and encourage people to vote and decide a political leader for the next four years, we also must need to know what to vote for and what to expect in order to hold the would-be leader accountable should ‘’they’’ fail us. This is far beyond one having an indifferent or pessimistic view about the whole ‘’ PVC-zealous awareness but, i am just concerned if we are going to vote some different persons to follow the normal national decline status quo.

It is witchcraft to believe and know that you cannot get a different result if you keep trying same thing with same process, yet this sagacity is just swept under the carpet whenever there is a need to act! We all need to carefully consider where we are going to and the way forward for 2019. Less the card turns to a valid identification for new accounts and Western Union dealings. The journey of a mile begins with a step but that is only if it is the right step less we grope in the dark for another period of four years.

What is the plan for the country? Our national challenge is not only security, corruption and terrorism but intellectual, nepotism, ethnicity, amongst the other lists. How do we plan to solve these? How do we plan to skyrocket the growth of the nation? Are we going to have a re-structured government? Is it not possible to have regional governments? How can the country intellectually improve? How can the country technologically improve? How do we plan to reduce the rate of unemployment or encourage entrepreneurship? Or are we going to stick to our for-the-people-and-of-the-people? Or are we simply going to select a leader because we are fed up with the current government? Who has a vision for the country?

The PVC awareness would be best achieved if we make people visionized the benefits of casting their votes for the right person. The election should be with a focus not just about getting any Tom, Dick and Harry who are 18 and above to vote. The purpose of the PVC is not to vote for a party nor the usual election propaganda but to vote for a candidate who is willing to improving the nation because the voters ‘card is to support only the Visionary Candidate. Since that has been said, do register; do vote.

We have been bled dry in this nation by corrupt leadership and their agencies is nothing to reiterate. It is a given.

Corruption in Nigeria won’t stop until leaders are made accountable.
Until they are made to go through the custody of the EFCC and account for what they stole, and face the music in jail, things cannot get better, but can only get worse.

I am not a vengeful person but as an anti-corruption crusader I think until we ensure that some of our corrupt leaders are made to suffer in jail for stealing our collective wealth, this struggle against corruption in this country will not be won, will not be over. Justice really need to catch up with them.

I urge the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFFC) and other anti-corruption agencies not to spare corrupt leaders and to recover the rest of Nigeria’s stolen funds which is flying all over the continent, which could be used for development ( not re-looting the recovered loot).

No fewer than twenty-one senators and ministers are presently receiving salaries from their states as former governors, deputy governors as well as ministers are at the same time collecting salaries and allowances as members of the National Assembly and ministers.

Those collecting double salaries are the Senate President (even though he has directed the Kwara State House of Assembly to stop his salaries), Rabiu Kwankwaso, Kabir Gaya, Goodwill Akpabio, Theodore Orji, Abdullahi Adamu, Sam Egwu, Shaaba Lafiagi, Joshua Dariye and Jonah Jang.
Others are Ahmed Sani Yarima, Danjuma Goje, Bukar Abba, Adamu Aliero, George Akume Miss Biodun Olujimi, Enyinaya Abaribe, Rotimi Amaechi, Kayode Fayemi, Chris Ngige and Babatunde Fashola.

For instance, the different state laws had indicated that a former governor in Lagos enjoys the following benefits for life: two houses, one in Lagos and Abuja estimated to cost between N500m and N700m, 300 per cent of annual salary to be paid every two years and N2.5m pension among others.

While, in Rivers, a former governor and his deputy, enjoy one residential house for governor anywhere of his choice in the country, while for the deputy anywhere in the state and 300 per cent annual basic salary among others.

In Akwa Ibom State, the law provides for N200m annual pay for former governors. Similarly, in Kano, the law provides for 100 per cent of annual basic salaries, six bedroom house and a 30-day vacation within and outside the country. In Gombe state, there is N300m executive pension benefits for ex-governors. In Kwara 300 per cent of his salary as furniture allowance, five personal staff. In Sokoto, a former governor receives N200m as his entitlements.

The disclosure made by Senator Shehu Sani has serious implications for public accountability in the country. We must commend him that for the first time since May 1999, the senator revealed the huge emoluments of the senators.

Nonetheless, this is happening at a time when workers are owed arrears of salaries and the masses groaning under a recession.

This injustice must stop!

Transmission, Transfussion and Transconfussion 3TTT by Nigeria IGP

Recently, the Nigeria Inspector General of Police  Ibrahim Kpotum Idris was invited by the house which he turned down the invitation rather sent a representative. It was not clear till now why he refused to show up. But the recent video of Nigeria IGP Ibrahim Kpotum Idris address in Kano unveil it all. In this video which the lyrics is down below you will see how IGP transmitted transmission into transconfussion that is 3TTT.

Full text of IGP address : For those who couldn't watch the IGP's video, this is the transcription(unedited):

“I mean, transmission, I mean effort, that the transmission cooperation to transmission, I mean transmission to have effect, ehm, apprehend, I mean, apprehensive towards the recommendation, recommended formation effective and effect, I mean, apprehensive at the transmission of…and transmission and transmission for the effective in the police command.”

“Sorry, I’m sorry please.”

(A man in suit joined him to help hold down his script, and even helped with the pronunciation of the words. But this didn’t make the reading any better for the IGP).

He continued, “All effective the transmission, other transmission, I can state without contradiction that I have commissioned what?”.

“Over transmission of, over transmission of, over all kidnapping, armed robbery and other heinous crimes, I mean, ehm, commission transmission, recommendation transmission.

Even now our news-crew are still trying to transmit the 3TTT in decoding message. Soon the update will be out.

Reno Omokri Retweeted Nigeria Police Force on IGP 3TTT

Reno

Z$ 1 million to the first person who can tell us how many times Nigeria’s Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Kpotum Idris used the word ‘TRANSMISSION’ while reading his now infamous Kano speech. Please RETWEET so we can solve this urgent national dilemma!
The case of IGP Ibrahim Kpotum Idris is a lesson on why a Commissioner of Police should not be promoted over more capable seniors and made Inspector General of Police. He is obviously unqualified for the job. It‘s this type of nepotism that has brought Nigeria to this sorry level

First @RKelly released the hit single IGNITION. Not to be outdone, Nigeria’s Inspector General of Police and budding rapper, Ibrahim Idris, releases his own rap single, TRANSMISSION. The song is so hot that @iTunes and other streaming platforms crashed the moment it was released.

The Nigerian Police has officially said IGP Ibrahim Idris’ TRANSMISSION rap video was ‘doctored’. I remember watching a man in a suit who came to help the IGP when he was having issues reading his speech. Perhaps he is the doctor that ‘doctored’ the video

“Spiritual attack” blamed for IGP Ibrahim Kpotum Idris’ TRANSMISSION blunder in Kano. If the IGP cannot protect us from ‘spiritual attack’, is it physical attack he can protect us from?

The Presidency says IGP Ibrahim Kpotum Idris’ ‘TRANSMISSION’ rap video was doctored. Well, it is not impossible. Since that is what the Buhari administration is claiming, can they please produce the original video before it was ‘doctored’? Or have rats eaten the original tape?
